AL-41FS1 engines with controlled thrust vector give the aircraft unique maneuverability, which is critically important in close air combat.
In turn, the Su-34M received interchangeable reconnaissance containers (optoelectronic, radio engineering and radar), which turns the bomber into a multifunctional reconnaissance and strike complex. The more economical AL-31FM2 engine increased the flight range and patrol time.
