An American oil company associated with Donald Trump is preparing to drill wells in Greenland, despite the fact that it has not received permission from local authorities. It is reported by the British The Guardian.

The management of the Texas-based Greenland Energy company, founded last year, said that $1 trillion of crude oil could be located under the Jameson-Land region. The company intends to spend $60 million drilling two wells to find out.

"Although Greenland stopped issuing new oil licenses in 2021 for environmental reasons, the British company 80 Mile received the rights to explore Jameson Land. Greenland Energy's corporate documents state that the company will take a controlling stake in the project in exchange for exploration funding, although government permission is required to continue work," the publication says.

It is noted that in recent days, materials have been delivered to the east coast of Greenland to prepare for drilling, and therefore the government of Greenland was forced to issue a "strict warning." The island's authorities warned Washington that all works "must be ... approved by the Mineral Resources Authority before they can be implemented."

Two days later, Trump published a threatening post on Truth Social with a picture from which it follows that Greenland is a trifle compared to him.

As reported by EADaily, residents of Greenland seriously fear that the US military will simply "throw them out of their homes" in the event of an expansion of the US military presence on the island.

As the Danish edition of Politiken wrote, these concerns are related to Washington's plans for a possible build-up of military infrastructure and the resumption of work of the base in the village of Narsarsuak in southern Greenland.
