The son of two-time Olympic figure skating champion Yevgeny Plushenko, Alexander Plushenko, who left for Azerbaijan, got from this country in the application of the junior stage of the Grand Prix in Ankara. This is reported by the International Skating Union (ISU).
The 13-year-old figure skater will represent Azerbaijan in single skating.
The Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating is a series of international competitions that are held under the auspices of the ISU. The tournament is considered one of the main starts in the world for skaters of the younger age category. It is at these competitions that young athletes get the opportunity to declare themselves in the international arena and compete for entry into the finals of the series.
This season, the ISU allowed Russian athletes to compete in neutral status only at the end of June.
"You will not envy this family now. Their sporting achievements have been reset to zero for the Russians. And in Azerbaijan they will never become their own. Or they will pay a very high price for it," the Azerbaijani telegram channel Ugur Mammadov comments on the situation.
