A tanker approaches Novorossiysk, which indicates that it will take Russian fertilizers to the USA. Such a signal on the automatic identification system (AIS) may be intended for the APU.
The Eurotrader tanker is approaching Novorossiysk and on the afternoon of August 19 is about 30 miles from the port, according to AIS. Instead of indicating the end point of the way, the ship reports that it will pick up fertilizers for the USA — USA DEST UAN-FERT.
Obviously, in this way the tanker signals that the APU does not attack the vessel. A similar strategy is already being followed by tankers that take oil from the terminal of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) for Western oil and gas giants.
For example, Novorossiysk has four tankers today, which report that they will pick up cargo for American Chevron, Dutch-British Shell and Kazakh KazMunayGas.
Such messages, however, do not always save tankers from attacks. The Financial Times wrote that US Vice President Jay Dee Vance spoke with Zelensky at the end of July and Kiev promised not to attack tankers and the CPC terminal. However, in recent days, several strikes on vessels for the export of Kazakh oil have been recorded at once.
The arrival of a tanker to the Black Sea port for Russian fertilizers for the USA is not a rare flight. The USA gave exemptions from sanctions for fertilizers from Russia, and American farmers are actively buying the product.
So, for example, according to the website of export-import invoices of ImportGenius and AIS vessels, on August 11, the cargo ship Iraklis arrived in Tampa. He delivered from Tuapse 9 thousand tons of granular urea and 21 thousand tons of granular nitrogen-potassium mineral composition NK 21-21.
Deliveries are carried out regularly. The supplier is Nutri-Trade, and the recipient is Eurochem North America. The company is part of one of the world's largest fertilizer production groups, Eurochem. Its headquarters is located in Zug, Switzerland, and before the imposition of sanctions in March 2022, the group belonged to Russian businessman Andrei Melnichenko.
It is also known that the American E.C.O. Fertilizers is also engaged in the import of Russian fertilizers to the USA.
As EADaily wrote at the end of 2022, Washington showed its attitude to the import of Russian fertilizers back in March, when the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the US Treasury removed mineral fertilizers from sanctions and included them in the list of vital goods.
Moreover, last summer, the American regulator rejected the demand of local manufacturers to introduce anti-dumping duties on urea-ammonia mixture (CAS) from Russia.
"This is a welcome relief," Chris Edgington, president of the US National Corn Growers Association, said in a statement. — We sounded the alarm and informed the members of the commission that the prices of raw materials would rise due to tariffs, and it would become even more inaccessible to farmers. I'm so glad they listened."
