German Chancellor Friedrich Merz was booed in North Rhine—Westphalia, affected by forest fires.
Merz returned from vacation today after more than three weeks of absence. He did not interrupt his rest even during the large-scale forest fires raging in Germany. The Chancellor, who first rushed into the North Rhine—Westphalia, after harsh criticism from the media and the opposition, was greeted there with posters with inscriptions: "The forest is burning, and Friedrich is sleeping."
To this, Merz said that he does not pay attention to those who shout, but prefers to talk "with those who help." As for forest fires, he blamed them on climate change, "reassuring" the Germans that they will be more frequent now.
"We should proceed from the fact that such events will occur more often. This is climate change," he said.
As Der Spiegel magazine wrote the other day, commenting on the prolonged absence of the head of government, "a chancellor who doesn't say anything doesn't say anything stupid either," hinting that Merz has a reputation as a politician who regularly causes controversy with his statements and often faces accusations of being too harsh or poorly worded.
As reported by EADaily, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has not appeared in public for more than three weeks. This was reported by the Polish edition of Dziennik.
