The visits to Moscow by CIA chief John Ratcliffe and Vatican diplomacy chief Paul Richard Gallagher were prompted by a desire to simply talk to the Russian side. This was pointed out by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in an interview with RBC.

The minister was asked why this week "on the same day" both the Vatican Secretary for International Affairs, Paul Richard Gallagher, and CIA Director John Ratcliffe, who flew in on a military transport plane, suddenly appeared in Moscow?

"In both cases, there is a desire of those who came to us to come and talk," Lavrov replied.

Note that in the case of Gallagher, this reason was indicated in the headline of the news of our agency.
