The number of victims as a result of the ferry crash off Northern Cyprus has increased to 8. This is reported by the TV channel A Hhaber.

"The number of people killed in a shipwreck off the coast of Kyrenia has risen to 8, 17 are considered missing," said the Minister of Public Works and Transport of the TRNC Erhan Ykli.

Meanwhile, after the disaster, 8 crew members were detained, including the captain of the vessel, the TV channel notes.

According to reports, the Russian Embassy in Cyprus is investigating whether Russian citizens were on the ferry.

As EADaily reported, 23 more people remain on board the completely sunken ferry near Northern Cyprus. This was stated live on A Haber TV channel by TRNC President Tufan Erhurman.

He shared the latest data on the progress of the rescue operation. "We got 237 people alive. We hope to safely reach the 23 people we have not yet reached," said the TRNC president.
