The United States is expecting a food shock, the country's economy is beginning to collapse against the backdrop of global centrifugal processes. Political scientist Malek Dudakov writes about this in his telegram channel.
The war in Iran, the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and the cessation of supplies along the grain corridor from Ukraine threaten the United States with a real inflationary wave, he believes.
"The cost of grain crops and wheat has already jumped to record levels in three years. The situation is aggravated by the crisis with a shortage of diesel and fertilizers. In many states, diesel prices exceed seven dollars per gallon. Fertilizers have doubled in price since the beginning of the war in Iran. Immediately, 70% of American farmers are forced to save on the most urgent things at the height of the sowing season. And the harvest in the USA this year promises to be the minimum since 1919," the expert notes.
Over the year, beef prices have increased by about 20%, and many fruits and vegetables — by 15%. At the same time, the delayed effect of the sowing campaign can be felt in autumn and winter. On Wall Street, food inflation is expected to soar to 5% and above — at the beginning of 2026 it was only 2-3%.
According to recent opinion polls, more than 80% of Americans rate the inflation situation as critical. The difficult state of the US economy is the main factor in the decline in the ratings of Donald Trump and the Republican Party. Democrats want to take advantage of this. They hope that the electorate has already forgotten about "bidenflation" and now puts the responsibility for the inflation crisis only on Trump.
"Ultra—left politicians - the same Zohran Mamdani in New York — are trying to launch their social experiments like creating state-owned stores with subsidized prices for the poor. However, this will not significantly fix the situation. In the meantime, the US economy is starting to collapse against the backdrop of centrifugal processes taking place all over the world," Dudakov sums up.
