Suddenly: Minsk and Warsaw discussed ways to develop cooperation between the two countries

The Foreign Ministers of Belarus and Poland's Maxim Ryzhenkov and Radoslaw Sikorski held a meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. This was reported in the Belarusian Foreign Ministry.

" The meeting with Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski was devoted to assessing the state of bilateral relations and ways to develop them in the interests of the peoples of the two countries. The parties also discussed the situation in the region", the Belarusian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

In turn, Sikorsky said that the meeting was made possible due to the neutral status of the site. At the same time, he stressed that "as a state, we recognize other states, not governments ".

" The UN is a neutral territory. Here you can also meet with representatives of those countries with which we do not necessarily have normalized relations in other circumstances, " he said.

At the same time, the minister called the talks " the first, introductory meeting" and noted that contacts between the departments are taking place at other levels. He linked the possibility of dialogue with changes at the border and the release of political prisoners, including Andrzej Poczobut.

"Neighbors are allowed more, they have more reasons to try to stabilize their relations, " Sikorski stressed.

According to the minister, Poland is preparing to open a new building of its embassy in Minsk.

"When a neighbor wants to unfreeze and improve relations, Poland is always the first to agree", he stressed.

Recall the relations between Belarus and Poland is extremely tense. Warsaw supports the strengthening of sanctions against Minsk, and also supports the fugitive Belarusian opposition.
