Poroshenko says no to federalization, leaders of DPR and LPR to be held responsible in conformity with the law

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko makes it plain that the leaders of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR) will be brought responsible for establishing the republics.

“No federalization will be allowed,” he said at a meeting of the National Reform Council on June 23. “Everyone behind the establishment of any republics will be brought responsible.” “The response will be immediate so that no one have desire to establish any Donetsk, Lugansk, or Bessarabian republics,” Poroshenko added.

On May 11 2014, referendums on the self-determination were held in the DPR and LPR. The turnout in Donetsk was 75%, in Lugansk – 81%, with more than 90% voting in support of the sovereignty of the republics.  On April 15 2014, Kiev announced a military operation against the federalization supporters. Since then, more than 6,000 people have been killed and over 14,000 have been wounded in the military actions on both sides.
