The Democratic Party of Turkmenistan has a new leader. At a party’s congress on April 2, Ata Serdarov, Turkmenistan’s Ambassador to Belgium and head of the Turkmen diplomatic mission to the EU, was elected the party’s chair, the state-run news agency of Turkmenistan reports.
Kasymguly Babaev, who led the party since 2013, resigned from the post to take another office.
Apart from the Democratic Party, there are only two political organizations in Turkmenistan: the Agrarian Party and the Party of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.
