The head of the Hamas Politburo, Ismail Haniyeh, was killed in a strike on his residence in the Iranian capital Tehran, Mehr news agency reported, citing a statement by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
"The head of the political bureau of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, was martyred in Tehran," the agency said in a statement.
According to the agency, one of Haniya's bodyguards was also killed as a result of the shelling.
The Hamas movement in an official statement acknowledged the death of the head of the Politburo, blaming Israel for what happened. The movement said the attacks occurred after Haniyeh attended the inauguration ceremony of the new Iranian president.
