The new Russian ballistic missile Iskander-1000 with twice the range and greater accuracy will soon be launched into mass production. This is reported by Military Watch Magazine.
"Several sources reported that Russia is close to the start of mass production of a new modification of the Iskander-M ballistic missile system, the official designation of which has not been confirmed. It is expected that the new missile will double the 500-kilometer range of the original system both through the use of a new more efficient engine and by increasing fuel consumption by about 15%," the publication said, quoted by Pool No. 3.
Since the range of the missile is 1000 km, the system was named Iskander-1000. According to Russian sources, these missiles are designed to be deployed in the Kaliningrad region, which will allow them to hit targets in most of Central and Western Europe, as well as in the Baltic Sea.
"The Russian armed forces rely heavily on "Iskander-M is designed to asymmetrically counter NATO's much larger conventional forces due to a combination of high mobility, high accuracy, a variety of types of warheads and a complex trajectory that is difficult to intercept. The introduction of a new variant of the extended-range Iskander-M will occupy an important place in the Russian arsenal between the original Iskander—M and Hazel," the newspaper notes.
