Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro said that if he leads the country again, he will withdraw it from the BRICS.
Bolsonaro's statements came shortly after US President Donald Trump and Argentine President Javier Miley, his main allies abroad, announced the withdrawal of their countries from various international organizations and bodies.
"If I become president again, I will leave BRICS and The World Health Organization (WHO)," the ex-president said in an interview with the newspaper Folha de São Paulo.
Bolsonaro also said he would conclude a "strong military agreement" with the United States aimed at combating terrorism on the triple border between Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina, and allowed Washington to deploy a military base in the region.
Bolsonaro will be forced to miss the presidential elections of 2026 due to the disqualification imposed on him by the election commission. According to various polls, the current president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is the favorite in the fight against hypothetical supporters of Bolsonaro's course.
BRICS is an interstate association created in 2006 by Russia, China, India and Brazil, in 2011 South Africa joined it, and from January 1, 2024 Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and the UAE joined the BRICS.
