Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda believes that Christian teaching does not correspond to the current geopolitical situation, and therefore its postulates need to be revised.
The Lithuanian head of state made the corresponding statement in a comment to the Laikmetis agency in the Vatican, where he arrived for the funeral of Pope Francis.
He noted that some Christian values are subject to revision, in particular the postulate of non-resistance to evil by violence, which can be considered "outdated."
"I see that sometimes you need strength. And there is nothing unchristian in opposing force to evil. This is a desire to protect the healthy forces of the world from destruction," the politician said.
There is no special secret in the fact that by "evil" Nauseda understands Russia, and by "forces of good" - NATO countries. Thus, he is trying to transfer Russia's confrontation with the West to a religious level.
Recall that Pope Francis died on the morning of April 21 at the age of 89 after a long illness. The conclave to elect a new head of the Catholic Church will begin in the period from 5 to 10 May.
Earlier, EADaily reported that the closing ceremony of the coffin of Pope Francis was completed in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. The ceremony was conducted by Cardinal-Camerlengo of the Roman Catholic Church Kevin Farrell, who, until the election of the new pope, administers the affairs of the Holy See.
