The leader of the opposition Party of Socialists in Moldova, Igor Dodon, although he condemns the war on Ukraine, but believes that Chisinau should maintain relations with Russia.
The ex-president stated this on the Rezoomat program on Rlive TV. As an example, he cited French President Emmanuel Macron, who after a long break called Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"We should have discussions with everyone where we have national interests. Today there was a telephone conversation between Macron and Putin. That is, Macron, who condemns the war and Putin, understood that he needed to negotiate with the Russian Federation, with Putin, and he picked up the phone and talked to Putin. The answer is for those who are in the PDS (the ruling Action and Solidarity party in Moldova). Macron and the European Union understand that a dialogue with the Russian Federation is needed. Then why don't we Moldovans, who need relations with the Russian Federation, discuss this?" — the politician asked a question.
He urged to leave the topic of war aside — "this is the worst that can happen, and the war should end as soon as possible, because and Ukraine, and Russia, and Moldova, and everyone else has something to lose."
"We need to negotiate with Russia, we need energy resources, we need a market, so we will go and continue to negotiate with partners and in In the Russian Federation, and in the EU, with everyone, based on our national interests," concluded Igor Dodon.
Recall that in June Dodon took part in St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. At the SPIEF venue, he held talks with Russian Minister of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov, to whom he stated that "the Moldovan economy will not survive without Russia."
As EADaily reported, the presidents of Russia and France, Vladimir Putin and Emmanuel Macron, had a telephone conversation yesterday. The heads of state discussed in detail the situation in the Middle East in the context of the Iranian-Israeli confrontation and US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
