During the design of the power transmission line on Sakhalin power engineers stumbled upon ancient artifacts and dugouts of the Russian-Japanese war.
Sakhalinenergo reported that they would conduct archaeological excavations at the Sakhalin GRES-2 — Uglezavodskaya power transmission line.
"When designing the reconstruction of the line, objects of cultural heritage were discovered," the operator reports. They said that they had identified a housing depression with a collapse, the remains of a dugout from the Russian-Japanese war (1904-1905) and artifacts: stone axes, fragments of ceramics and tool blanks.
The company said that the archaeological work will take place at two sites on the power line with a total area of 500 square meters. They are scheduled to be completed by the end of September.
"The line is critically important for the Sakhalin energy system. It connects Sakhalinskaya GRES-2 and Yuzhno-Sakhalinskaya CHP and provides electricity to the Dolinsky district," Sakhalinenergo reports.
