The wife of the French president Brigitte Macron caused a scandal by calling feminists "stupid whores." It is reported by The Independent.

It is noted that the 72-year-old Frenchwoman said this on Sunday at the Folies Bergère club, the moment was recorded on video and got online. Feminists tried to disrupt the show of 51-year-old actor Ari Abittan. In 2021, he was accused of raping a 23-year-old woman, but in 2023 the charges were dropped, and an appeal filed this year upheld the decision. In a video that has gone viral, Abittan tells Macron, the wife of President Emmanuel Macron, that he was "scared" when he took the stage again. "If there are any stupid whores there, we will throw them out,— Ms Macron joked. — Especially in masks," the newspaper writes.

The video has gained hundreds of thousands of views after it was published by the French magazine Public.

"We are deeply shocked and outraged. The words she uses say a lot about her worldview, the political message is extremely shocking," one of the activists said after the video was published.

The representative of Brigitte Macron said that this "dialogue should be considered only as a criticism of the radical methods used by those who in masks disrupted the speech of Ari Abittan."

According to The Independent, four feminists from NousToutes tried to disrupt Abittan's performance on Saturday by wearing masks with his face and the inscription: "Rapist" on the forehead. They were chanting: "Ari Abittan is a rapist" until they were taken out of the hall.

Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly of France Clemence Guette criticized Brigitte Macron in the social network X.

"Brigitte Macron calls the activists gathered in front of the theater, where the man accused of sexual assault is performing, "stupid whores." Violence is the famous "great goal of the five—year term," she said.

Manon Aubry, an MEP from the left-wing La France Insoumise party, said that "It's time for the Macrons to leave."

The vulgar expression sales connes, which was used by the first lady of France, in French slang means "dirty idiots", "whores" or "stupid women" — depending on the context, Bild explains. The newspaper notes that the wave of indignation still does not subside.
