The president of the Russian Wrestling Federation Mikhail Mamiashvili proposed to introduce monetary compensation for the country where the Russian wrestler goes when changing sports citizenship.
According to him, several wrestlers are now in the process of changing sports citizenship.
"You can't keep everyone by force, of course. But I see the following ways to stop the departure of our fighters. It is necessary to introduce a large monetary compensation so that the country to which our wrestler goes pays it to us. At the same time, whatever the compensation, it is impossible to measure and fully compensate for the long—term work of the coaches," Mamiashvili quotes VseProSport.
Mamiashvili considers it incorrect that when changing citizenship, wrestlers continue to practice in Russia with their coaches.
"The wrestlers who have changed the national team remain in our country, train with the same coaches and in the same social and competitive environment. Is this normal? I would raise the question of the expediency of their further stay in the society where they took place as athletes," he said.
All these issues in the FSB will be discussed at the executive committee on December 24.
Mamiashvili also suggested that as early as February 2026, Russian wrestlers may be allowed to compete in world tournaments under the flag of their country.
"There is reason to hope that February will begin for Russian wrestlers with a flag and anthem. These will be ranking tournaments. There are all prerequisites for this," he believes.
