During the US attack on Caracas, 32 Cubans from the Venezuelan president's guard were killed. This is reported by the BBC.
"No country in America, except Venezuela itself, has suffered more from the events in Caracas than Cuba. At the moment, the Cuban government has strongly condemned the US operation as illegal and declared two days of national mourning for the 32 Cuban citizens who died during its conduct," the BBC reports.
It is noted that the death of Cubans "revealed a key fact" — Nicolas Maduro's security service consisted almost entirely of Cubans.
According to the BBC, Cuban citizens also hold numerous posts in the intelligence services and The Armed Forces of Venezuela.
Havana, in turn, stated that the Cubans carried out the mission on behalf of the Revolutionary Armed Forces and the Cuban Interior Ministry at the official request of the Venezuelan authorities. They "fell after stubborn resistance" in direct battles with the Americans, as well as as a result of air strikes on a number of objects, the Cuban authorities said.
According to the NYT, the total number of deaths during the US attack on Venezuela has reached 80 people.
