Completely changes the rules of the game: Iran will buy anti-ship cruise missiles from China

Iran is close to an agreement with China on the purchase of SM-302 anti-ship cruise missiles. It is reported by Reuters, citing six sources.

It is noted that this is happening just at the moment when the United States is deploying its Navy off the Iranian coast before possible strikes on the republic.

"The deal on Chinese CM-302 missiles is close to completion, although the delivery date has not yet been agreed, sources said. Supersonic missiles have a range of about 290 kilometers and are designed to bypass ship defenses by flying low and fast. Their deployment will significantly increase Iran's strike capabilities and poses a threat to US naval forces in the region, two weapons experts said, "the agency reports.

Tehran's negotiations with Beijing on the purchase of complexes, which began at least two years ago, accelerated sharply after the 12-day war between Israel and Iran in June, said six people — three officials briefed by the Iranian government and three members of the security forces.

"It completely changes the rules of the game if Iran has the supersonic ability to attack ships in the area. These missiles are very difficult to intercept," Danny Citrinovich, a former Israeli intelligence officer and now a senior researcher on Iran at the Israel National Security Institute think tank, commented on the news.
