The US presidential administration has expressed its readiness to support Iranian armed groups to fight the regime, including negotiations with Iranian Kurds, The Wall Street Journal writes. This strategy is aimed at using internal forces as a "ground component" to minimize the direct involvement of American troops.
"The Americans are struggling to find someone in Iran who is ready to go to overthrow the regime instead of them. Trump is ready to provide support to groups ready to take up arms and overthrow the regime, US officials said. This initiative could turn the Iranian opposition into ground forces, at least rhetorically supported by Washington,"the newspaper reports.
According to sources, on March 1, Trump held talks with Kurdish leaders and continues to interact with other local leaders who can use the weakening of Tehran's position to achieve their goals.
It is noted that "the Kurds have significant forces along the Iran-Iraq border, and Israel has attacked positions in western Iran, which gives rise to speculation about the possible preparation of the ground for the offensive of Kurdish forces."
