At least 30 law enforcement officers were taken to the hospital after the shooter attacked a synagogue in Michigan, Oakland Sheriff Michael Bouchard said, CNN reports.
"When our employees went into that building together to find a threat and get innocent people out, many of them inhaled gorenje products, and now they are in the hospital, where they are receiving treatment," — said Bouchard.
According to him, the motive of the attacker is still unknown, the police can only make assumptions. More than 100 FBI agents and analysts took part in the investigation, said bureau spokeswoman Jennifer Runyan.
Several law enforcement sources told CNN that the car used by the attacker was registered to a Michigan resident from Lebanon. The authorities received information that several members of his family could have died as a result of an Israeli airstrike on Lebanon.
On the evening of March 12, a man crashed into a synagogue building in a car and opened fire. Bouchard said that he was found dead in a car that caught fire after the return fire of the police officers who arrived at the scene. CNN sources reported that a large amount of explosives was found in the car.
There were no casualties as a result of the attack. Because of the incident, local Jewish organizations were temporarily closed, RBC clarifies
