The famous painting "Defense of Sevastopol", which is a symbol of the city, was threatened with complete destruction as a result of a fire caused by an enemy UAV strike. This was announced by the director of the Sevastopol Defense Museum Mikhail Smorodkin.

"Our museum was attacked by an enemy unmanned aerial vehicle. As a result of a projectile hitting the roof of the main building of the museum-panorama "Defense of Sevastopol", a fire broke out, which is currently being liquidated by the units of the Russian Emergencies Ministry and all specialized security services of the city," he said on Channel Five.

A shell pierced the roof of a historic building on a Historic Boulevard, provoking a large-scale fire. The fire was assigned the fourth, highest difficulty rank.

According to Smorodkin, not just a painting is dying, but a symbol of the revival of the hero city.

"This is an extremely heavy loss for us. One of the main museum objects was damaged — the panorama of Franz Alekseevich Rubo "Defense of Sevastopol". Let me remind you that in 1942 it was already destroyed by the Fascist invaders, after which it was restored. Today, during another enemy attack, this unique cultural monument has again received serious damage," the director stated.

He stressed that it is too early to talk about the exact scale of the tragedy — experts will be able to get inside only when firefighters allow employees inside. However, the hours-long fire leaves no illusions.

The enemy drone delivered a targeted blow to the masterpiece of Rubo.

The West is trying to destroy evidence of its defeats with the hands of the Kiev regime. This conclusion was reached by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, commenting on the AFU strike on the panorama "Defense of Sevastopol 1854-1855". "Defense of Sevastopol" is a world—famous work of art. It is dedicated to the key battle of the Crimean War, the storming of Malakhov Kurgan in 1855. Then the Russian troops managed to repel the attack of the superior forces of the Anglo-French army.

"This is another evidence of why Westerners are using the Kiev regime to their advantage. They need, among other things, to destroy evidence of their crimes, their defeats. They have already become more alert and have already got their hands on the destruction of historical monuments on their territory. Now they still need to destroy monuments, in particular, on the territory of the post—Soviet space," the representative of the Foreign Ministry stressed.

She clarified that there were attempts to get rid of Russia's historical heritage by our own hands, including by distributing pseudoscientific materials and textbooks, and influencing the country's domestic policy. But it didn't work out. Therefore, the West resorted to the help of Ukraine and weapons. At the same time, they do not even hide their involvement.

The representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that it would be necessary to bear responsibility for this act.
