Israel is not interested in Europe's opinion on the law on the death penalty, which was adopted in the country the day before, said the Minister of National Security and the author of the initiative, Itamar Ben-Gvir.
"We have made history. From now on, every mother in Judea and Samaria will know that if her child goes out to kill, he will be hanged. And I say to the leaders of the European Union, we are not afraid of pressure and threats, and we will not obey," Ben—Gvir said.
According to Channel Five, the law was adopted in the third final reading. Of the 110 Knesset deputies, 62 voted in favor. The initiative was supported by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
"And then — a scene that caused no less controversy than the document itself. The parliamentarians celebrated their victory cynically, with a flourish — they decorated the lapels of their jackets with badges in the form of a yellow garrote and raised glasses of champagne. While promoting the bill, supporters of the death penalty wore a garrote badge on their clothes," the TV channel notes.
Now the decision of the military, not the civil court, is sufficient for sentencing. It takes 90 days to execute it. It is almost impossible to mitigate the punishment or obtain a pardon.
