Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga admitted that the main obstacle to the resumption of the Druzhba oil pipeline was Hungary's blocking of an EU loan of € 90 billion.
Oil transit via Druzhba stopped on January 27. Earlier, Kiev claimed that the pipeline allegedly needed repair. Now, after the elections were held in Hungary and the country is changing its leadership, the rhetoric has changed in Kiev.
"We have given all our confirmations. There is a date, there is a renovated infrastructure. I want to be very careful here, because I think that the most important, artificially created barrier, the Hungarian one, has also been removed," Sibiga said today, April 22..
According to the minister, now "we need to go further together so that Ukraine receives a loan from the EU in the amount of € 90 billion."
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that Ukraine is blocking Russian oil supplies solely for political reasons, and the pipeline is in working order.
