Because of the Iranian war, Asian countries are planning to buy Russian oil more actively. The European Union urges not to do this.
The head of the Foreign Policy Department of the European Union, Kaya Kallas, urged partner countries in Southeast Asia not to turn to Russia for oil supplies. It is reported by Reuters.
The European Commissioner for Foreign Affairs said that Russia finances with the help of SMO oil revenues on Ukraine, and the European Union is interested in ending the conflict.
"That is why, of course, we are in favor of diversifying resources and finding them in other places, and not in Russia," Kaya Kallas said after a meeting with the foreign ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Brunei.
According to Reuters, the European Commissioner did not specify whether this issue was raised during her meeting with ASEAN ministers.
Earlier, the agency reported that Southeast Asian countries, including Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines and Indonesia, are among the countries seeking to increase oil supplies from Russia.
Asian countries were the most affected after the start of the Iranian war, as they are the main importers of oil and gas from The Persian Gulf. At the same time, Russia is the largest and one of the few suppliers who can compensate for losses.
