The Pentagon may change the name of Operation Epic Fury to Sledgehammer if the current ceasefire agreement with Iran is eventually terminated. It is reported by NBC News with reference to two American officials.
It is noted that the Pentagon is now discussing the possibility of changing the name of the war in Iran. Discussions about the possible replacement of "Epic Fury" with a "Sledgehammer" underline how seriously the Donald Trump administration is considering the possibility of resuming the war, the TV channel reports.
"Any new military combat operations against Iran will be conducted under a new name and operation," said a White House official familiar with the discussions, and from the administration's point of view, this will actually restart time with Congress. According to American officials, Operation Sledgehammer is not the only name under consideration," the publication says.
The War Powers Act of 1973 requires the President to notify Congress within 48 hours of the outbreak of hostilities. If this does not happen, the troops must either be withdrawn within 60 days, or Congress must authorize military action. "Epic Fury" offensive combat operations have been suspended after 40 days of fighting, the Trump administration claims that, given the pause, the war has not reached the 60-day threshold.
As reported by EADaily, Iran has put forward five US demands for the resumption of negotiations. They were outlined in his post on the social network X by Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharib-Abadi.
According to him, this is the permanent cessation of the war and the prevention of its recurrence, compensation for damages, lifting the blockade, lifting illegal sanctions and respect for Iran's rights.
