US President Donald Trump left a letter to Vice President Jay Dee Vance in case "something happens" to the American leader. This was stated by Deputy assistant to the President Sebastian Gorka on the podcast "Pod Force One," writes the New York Post.

Gorka noted that there are "rules of inheritance" in case Trump becomes the victim of an assassination attempt. According to the representative of the White House, he has no concerns that a "foreign adversary" will decide to take such a step.

"There is a letter in the Resolute desk drawer addressed to the vice president in case something happens to him (Trump). …We have protocols, believe me," Gorka said.

Trump has been assassinated several times in recent years. So, in July 2024, at a rally during the election race, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks fired eight shots, wounding Trump in the ear. The shooter was killed by a Secret Service officer.

In the fall of the same year, the FBI prevented an assassination attempt on Trump at his golf club in Florida, he was not injured. Law enforcement officers detained 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh, and in February 2026 he was sentenced to life imprisonment.

On April 25, a shooting occurred at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner, where Trump was present. The event was held at the Washington Hilton Hotel, where an assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan took place 45 years ago. The White House called the incident an attempt on the life of the head of state.

In May, Trump said that among his "ideal successors" he sees Vance and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. According to him, these politicians can make a "dream team" in the presidential elections of 2028.

"JD (Vance) is perfect. It was the perfect choice," he added.
