Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel said on May 19 that if the United States invades the country, "a bloodbath with incalculable consequences" could occur.

"The threat itself constitutes an international crime. If it materializes, it will provoke a bloodbath with incalculable consequences, as well as a devastating impact on regional peace and stability," he said in a message to X (ex. Twitter).

Diaz-Canel stressed that Cuba does not pose a threat and has no aggressive plans against any countries, including the United States. According to him, this fact is well known to the American government, especially its defense departments and national security services.

The Cuban leader recalled that Havana has the legal right to defend itself against a military offensive. He noted that this right cannot be used as a pretext for unleashing a war against the Cuban people.
