The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has suspended the payment of the next planned tranche of a loan to Ukraine in the amount of $ 700 million, which was expected on June 1.
On the eve of the IMF Communications Director Julie Kozak promised that the management would consider the issue of the tranche in the coming weeks, but did not give specific dates.
It should be borne in mind that she had already said almost the same thing two weeks before. The payment has been suspended for more than a month, the decision will be made by the fund's managers.
The main reason for the delay was the failure of the Ukrainian side to fulfill one of the key conditions of the international lender's program in the first quarter. We are talking about reducing the budget deficit.
Recall that Ukraine has been forming a budget with a record deficit for the last few years, hoping to overcome it with Western aid. Kiev's reluctance to take measures to reduce the deficit has raised concerns in the IMF about the allocation of new funds.
Earlier, EADaily reported that the International Monetary Fund demanded that the authorities of the Kiev regime develop a roadmap for a gradual increase in utility tariffs.
