Tsikhotsky was the Polish ambassador to Ukraine in 2019-2023 and twice awarded by the local authorities. In June 2022, he received the Order of Merit of the II degree from Zelensky, and in December of the same year he received the Cross of Military Merit from the then commander-in—chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny.
In a statement sent to the media, Tsikhotsky said that in connection with the decisions of the president of Ukraine "in honor of the UPA❶ and an associate of the German Nazis," he returned the award to him.
