Due to the overcrowding of one of the correctional labor institutions in the Abai region of Kazakhstan, the penitentiary authorities of the republic intend to change the status of the colony and relocate some of the prisoners to the Karaganda region. This is notified by the Committee of the Penitentiary System (CUIS) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
"In order to make optimal use of the housing stock of institutions of the penitentiary system, the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is considering the issue of repurposing institution No. 19 of the Abai region," the report says.
It is indicated that the regime of this colony will be changed to a stricter one.
Convicts serving sentences in institution No. 19 will be transferred to institution No. 34 of Karaganda region with a similar detention regime, where all necessary measures for sanitary and epidemiological surveillance have been carried out.
