Vyacheslav Chikalin, former vice-president of Evrazbank and ex-chairman of the Board of Directors of Sol Rusi PJSC, who was wanted in criminal cases of fraud and embezzlement, was detained in Moscow while checking documents. This was reported by TASS with reference to a source in law enforcement agencies.
He was detained at the Teply Stan metro station, the man was wanted, his data was in the face recognition database, which made it possible to establish his identity. The detainee, while communicating with law enforcement officers, stated that he was homeless.
The interlocutor of the agency clarified that several criminal cases have been initiated against Chicalin, including fraud and embezzlement of several billion rubles. According to one of them, he was sentenced to imprisonment.
"Currently, Chicalin has signed a contract and is a SMO member. I was on vacation in Moscow," the source said.
After the investigators work with him, he will most likely return to SMO again.
In the mid-2000s, Chikalin was simultaneously vice-president of Evrazbank, chairman of the Board of Directors of Sol Rusi PJSC, one of the largest financial pyramids in Russia, as well as a parish elder of one of the Moscow churches.
In 2021, Chikalin was sentenced to seven years in prison in the case of embezzlement of more than 21.8 billion rubles from the Transportny Bank. The court concluded that he and six other defendants in 2013-2015 issued knowingly non-repayable loans.
