The head of the Bulgarian shipping company Navigation Maritime Bulgar admitted that his vessel Vezhen could damage the underwater cable between Sweden and Latvia. "This was not a deliberate action," the shipowner believes.
According to shipowner Alexander Kalchev, quoted by Reuters, it cannot be ruled out that one of the anchors fell to the bottom due to strong wind and touched the fiber optic.

A possible act of sabotage was cited as the reason for the start of the investigation. As a result, a Bulgarian container ship sailing under the flag of Malta was detained.
The Vezhen vessel, which left the Russian port, is currently moored near Karlskrona, off the southeastern coast of Sweden. The photos published on Monday by the Expressen newspaper show that one of the anchors is missing one of the "paws".
