The European Court of General Jurisdiction received an appeal from MEPs demanding to check whether this body violated its legal obligations by refusing to investigate contracts for the supply of Covid-19 vaccines. This is reported by Politico.
According to the newspaper, the court received a petition prepared by parliamentarians from the right-wing factions, who consider illegal the decision of the leaders of political groups on September 3 not to put to the vote the creation of a special committee to investigate. It is noted that the protest was made by deputies from the associations "Europe of Sovereign Nations" and "Patriots of Europe", as well as representatives of the right-wing group "European Conservatives and Reformists". In April 2025, they already called on their colleagues to support an investigation into alleged cases of corruption, money laundering, abuse of power and interference in legislative processes. However, then their initiative failed.
Recall that in 2024, the EU Court ruled that the European Commission did not provide sufficient public access to contracts for the purchase of coronavirus vaccines, and also partially violated EU regulations by removing legal responsibility for side effects of drugs from manufacturing companies. At the same time, the contracts were concluded under the personal control of EC President Ursula von der Leyen by exchanging personal SMS messages with the heads of pharmaceutical corporations, which were later "accidentally" destroyed.
