At least 40 people, including military and civilians, died as a result of the US attack on Venezuela on Saturday night, The New York Times reported, citing a source among senior Venezuelan officials.
"At least 40 people, including civilians and soldiers, were killed in the attack," a source told the newspaper.
US President Donald Trump on Saturday morning said that the US military carried out an attack against Venezuela, managed to capture and take out of the country President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Celia Flores.
On January 3, the United States conducted Operation Absolute Determination, during which Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, was hit, and Maduro and his wife were captured by the US military.
US officials told the NYT that more than 150 American aircraft were sent to disable air defenses so that military helicopters could deliver troops.
The United States accused the Venezuelan leader of collaborating with drug traffickers and announced that he would appear before an American court. US President Donald Trump said that the United States would take over the administration of the republic and called on the country's leadership to obey.
