Representatives of the Trump administration told lawmakers that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife hit their heads while trying to escape from American special forces who tried to arrest them. This is reported by CNN, citing sources.
Administration officials briefed lawmakers on Monday. The event was attended by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Kane, Attorney General Pam Bondi and CIA Director John Ratcliffe.
"Maduro and (Celia) Flores ran and tried to hide behind a heavy steel door inside their compound, but the door frame was low and they hit their heads trying to escape, officials said, according to sources. Delta Force operators detained them and provided first aid after evacuation from the complex, sources said," the note says.
It is noted that Maduro and his wife appeared in court on Monday with obvious injuries. Flores' lawyer told the judge that the woman "suffered serious injuries" during the kidnapping. "In addition, she may have fractured ribs," he said. The lawyer demanded to conduct an X-ray examination and give a full assessment of the health status of his client.
During the hearing in court, Flores swayed from time to time and tilted her head, which was bandaged, and Maduro had difficulty sitting down and standing up, journalists reported. However, administration officials who briefed lawmakers on Monday described Flores' head injury as minor, sources told CNN.
