The US Navy is sorting out all possible ways to combat rust, which became a real disgrace when inspecting ships in February 2025 by US President Donald Trump. Details are provided by the TWZ publication.
"We know what needs to be done, but we prefer not to do it," said Mark Lattner, who heads the Office for Ensuring the Integrity and Performance of US Navy ships.
The sailors chose quite simple solutions. For example, large purchases of polysiloxane paint are possible, "originally developed as an anti-graffiti paint, very durable, very good paint, easy to clean."
"It may be enough just to install a good drainage system on the ship, diverting water from the side," Lattner added.
Other options are more global — to use materials that are inherently less susceptible to corrosion. We are talking about modern composites.
