The extension by the administration of US President Donald Trump of sanctions against Russia imposed by decrees from 2014 to 2022 in connection with the situation on Ukraine, is a "fairly automatic" solution, said the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.

"The decision is quite automatic, it is an extension. And what will happen later as a result of the negotiation process, we will already look at the results of those conversations that will be finalized," the Kremlin spokesman said, answering a question from journalists whether Washington's decision was expected for Moscow amid negotiations, including those that are taking place within the framework of the Russian—American economic affairs group..

Peskov added that the negotiation process was "time-consuming," so the Kremlin had "no high expectations on this score."

EADaily adds: on the eve of February 19, the Kremlin's negotiator with the envoys of the US presidential administration — the special representative of the President of the Russian Federation Kirill Dmitriev said that the United States is interested in lifting sanctions against Russia because of profitable joint projects. "The United States will eventually lift sanctions because sanctions against Russia have cost American companies more than $300 billion. The lifting of sanctions against Russia is in the interests of the United States," he wrote on Twitter, commenting on the publication of the British magazine The Economist about the proposal. The Russian Federation to the American partners of the deal in the amount of $ 12 trillion in exchange for the lifting of sanctions.

At the same time, Dmitriev noted that the portfolio of potential Russian-American projects exceeds $ 14 trillion.

The Economist, citing its sources, claims that during the negotiations on the end of the conflict on The Kremlin offered Ukraine shares in Russian energy assets to people close to the Trump family in exchange for the lifting of US sanctions. In particular, trusted heads of the White House can enter into oil and gas production projects in The Arctic, the development of rare earth metal deposits, the creation of a data processing center with nuclear power supply and the construction of a tunnel under the Bering Strait.
