Over the past year, Poland has significantly increased exports by Ukraine, and the volume of trade has reached record levels. This is evidenced by the data of the Main Statistical Office (GUS).
According to GUS, Poland exports significantly more goods to Ukraine than imports from it. According to the ministry, last year the value of Polish exports to the eastern neighbor amounted to about 13.5 billion euros, which is almost three times more than the volume of Ukrainian imports to Poland.
"Imports at current prices in euros remained approximately at the same level. The most noticeable export expansion from Poland is demonstrated by such industries as machinery and industrial products. The deficit that Poland records in trade with Ukraine is mainly related to low—grade processed goods — raw wood, food and unprocessed metals," said Pavel Ropiak, an expert at the Research and Analysis Department of the Bank of National Economy (BGK).
Warsaw remains one of Kiev's key trading partners. Poland supplies to Ukraine produces products with higher added value, while importing raw materials necessary for further production. The structure of Polish exports is dominated by fuel, vehicles, mechanical and electrical equipment, and in recent years the supply of defense products has increased markedly. At the same time, agricultural and food products, metal ores, wood and certain types of industrial products are imported from Ukraine to Poland.
