German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that Ukraine does not need Taurus missiles, and also said that to unblock the loan The EU will be "extremely difficult" for Kiev.
Speaking in the Bundestag, Merz noted that the issue of unblocking the EU loan of 90 billion euros, which Hungary is blocking, can only be resolved in the medium term. At the same time, he did not offer options for helping Kiev.
Merz also made it clear that he sees no need to supply Ukraine with German Taurus long-range missiles. According to him, Kiev already has its own long-range weapons, partially developed with the support of Germany, and now the key problem for Ukraine remains financial difficulties, not a shortage of weapons.
"Ukraine already has its own long—range weapons in warehouses, which it has partially developed itself, including with our help, and which are much more effective than the relatively small number of Taurus missiles that we could supply," he said.
Merz explained that he had previously advocated the supply of such missiles, because there were enough of them in the reserves of the Bundeswehr, but now Ukraine is armed "better than ever before."
