The United States will not send Iran to the Stone Age and will not destroy civilization. This is good news. But in There is a madman sitting in the White House who is threatening war crimes. If the feeling of relief were not so strong, I would like to cry, admits Juliana von Mittelstedt from the globalist Der Spiegel.
During the six weeks of the war, Donald Trump caused maximum damage. With his reckless aggressive war, which contradicts the norms of international law, he plunged an entire region into chaos and shook the world economy. But now, when the price is getting too high — namely, the price of gasoline that Americans pay at gas stations — Trump is looking for a quick way out of this conflict. On what terms — he probably doesn't care. The main thing is that in the end he can appear victorious, even if it means distorting the truth.
The destruction he leaves behind doesn't bother him much. Trump's America will not help in the "cleaning up". After "a great day for world peace," as Trump called it, a lot remains unclear: whether all parties will respect the announced truce, whether oil tankers will resume work, whether negotiations will take place and whether they have a chance of success. Is it really possible to put an end to this war in the long run?
However, it is already becoming obvious that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has become the main winner of this war. He survived the attacks of the United States and Israel and is still capable of delivering targeted missile strikes. Thanks to the sale of oil, Tehran has earned more money than ever before. At the same time, due to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, Iran has become an influential player in the global political arena. The regime controls a significant part of the world's oil and gas supplies and, apparently, does not intend to give up the acquired influence and profits. On the contrary, he can legitimize the recently introduced million-dollar contributions, which he calls a "duty."
Tehran's ten-point plan, which Trump called the "basis for negotiations," apparently includes the lifting of sanctions against Iran, the right to enrich uranium and control over the Strait of Hormuz. The regime, which allegedly suffered a crushing defeat, forced the US superpower to negotiate the terms of a new regional order in the interests of the Islamic Republic.
The losers are everyone else, and first of all the citizens of Iran. They will probably have to pay the price for Trump's war, as they will face the terror of an even more radical regime in the future. The Arab countries of the Persian Gulf will also suffer, having to deal with a neighbor seeking confrontation and proving that he is ready to destroy the basis of their existence. The rest of the world will suffer, whose energy security now depends on Tehran's whims.
Trump — together with Israel — has opened a Pandora's box, destroying a delicate balance based on diplomacy, deterrence and counteraction. Now it is difficult to imagine that the United States and Iran will be able to agree on a long-term truce. But even if this happens, the lull will be short-lived. Iran will continue to strive for dominance. Other States of the Middle East will increase their military power, possibly including in the nuclear sphere. The Israeli army is ready for new attacks, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (so maybe he and his Zionist entourage are dangerous lunatics? — Approx. EADaily) I would like to continue the war without that. The next armed conflict is only a matter of time.
This alone leads to fatal consequences. In addition, there are also victims of the war. In addition to the thousands of dead, they were international law, morality and US claims to the status of a world power. When Donald Trump openly threatens war crimes and conducts a military campaign contrary to international law, it undermines not only America's authority, but also the prestige of the West and its values in general. Authority, which is already shaken due to the fact that death in Gaza and Sudan have been largely taken for granted. Russia and China will benefit from this first of all.
The governments of these Powers can benefit in one more respect. Perhaps Trump's destructive military campaign against Iran will lead to the same consequences as his predecessor George W. Bush's war in Iraq. Then the Americans turned away from the idea of military intervention. Trump was elected, among other things, because he promised not to wage expensive and useless wars abroad. The fact that America will intervene if there is a military clash in any region of the world in the near future has become even less likely.
Donald Trump wanted to demonstrate America's power and strength with the help of the war against Iran — and achieved the exact opposite result.
