Former CIA chief John Brennan has called for Donald Trump to be removed from the US presidency. The reason was Trump's statements against the background of the war against Iran: for example, his words about the possible "destruction of Iranian civilization."
Brennan said that the president, in his opinion, is not capable of performing the duties of the head of state, and called his behavior dangerous.
"This man is clearly mentally ill. The 25th Amendment was written for Trump," Brennan said.
This is not about impeachment, but about another mechanism: the vice president and the majority of cabinet members must declare in writing that the president is incapacitated. After that, the powers pass to the vice-president. If the president himself objects, the final decision should be made by Congress, where two-thirds of the votes are needed for this.
In practice, such a scenario now looks extremely unlikely. Trump retains support within the administration and among Republicans in Congress, and he himself has already survived two impeachment attempts during his first presidential term.
It should be noted that Brennan has never advocated the removal from office of the previous US President Joe Biden, who was really ill, suffering from severe dementia.
As EADaily reported, former FBI director James Comey and former CIA director John Brennan are under investigation in a criminal case related to their role in spreading in 2016 the theory of US President Donald Trump's ties with Russia, which was subsequently refuted.
