Yesterday morning, the tanker Nero, controlled by the Russian Sovcomflot, passed the Strait of Hormuz. But he got up in the Gulf of Oman, where he is now. Perhaps the ship came under the inspection of the US military, who established a blockade of the strait and all cargo from Iran.

The oil tanker Nero passed the Strait of Hormuz on the morning of April 20 from The Persian Gulf, but only 60 miles away from the strait. According to AIS vessels, around 16.00 the tanker slowed down and, in fact, stopped. He became the only one on April 20 who passed the Strait of Hormuz.

182-meter Nero can carry up to 36 thousand tons of petroleum products and comes with cargo, judging by the draft of 10.7 meters. The tanker indicates that it is heading to Korfakkan, which is located in UAE on the shores of the Gulf of Oman. Where the ship received the cargo is unknown.

It is known that it is under sanctions EU and UK for transportation from Russia. Initially, the vessel was directly owned by the Russian Sovcomflot. However, after the imposition of sanctions against Russia, it then came under the control of its enterprises, and since October 2025, according to Equasis, the vessel has been owned by an unknown owner.

It is likely that the tanker came under the inspection of the US Navy, which staged a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz to prevent the transportation of goods from Iranian ports.

Prior to that, the vessel crossed the strait through the territorial waters of Iran, which may indicate the coordination of passage with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

The US Central Command does not report anything about Nero, but said it has already deployed dozens of vessels.

"Since the beginning of the blockade of ships entering or leaving Iranian ports and coastal zones, US forces have forced 27 ships to turn around or return to Iranian ports," the Central Command reports.
