Greece demands that Ukraine remove all sea drones from its shores after the incident off the island of Lefkada. This is reported by Kathimerini.
Athens intends to send Kiev a strong warning demanding that all naval drones be withdrawn from their coastal waters, the newspaper writes. The Greek authorities are afraid of possible errors in guidance and the occurrence of emergencies.
"Well-informed sources told Kathimerini that the Mamai-type BNA (trade name: Cossack Mamai), created specifically for striking, is just one of many devices of this type operating in the Eastern Mediterranean. A preliminary report on the incident and the results of the inspection of the apparatus, prepared by the Joint Headquarters of the Greek Armed Forces, has already been handed over to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who will decide on further actions based on the data received," the publication quoted InoSMI as saying.
According to the document, the sea drone found at Lefkada was part of a broader operation planned by Kiev against Russia. It is noted that devices of this size, no larger than a jet ski, are almost impossible to detect. According to defense experts who examined the drone, it was transported on a vessel without permanent registration, which was spotted off the coast of Libya.
Greece is considering applying to the UN to raise the issue of shipping safety and the risks of uncontrolled use of naval drones in peaceful regions.
