The head of Rosatom: The situation at the Zaporozhye NPP is close to the point of no return

The Ukrainian Armed Forces are intensifying shelling of areas near the Zaporozhye NPP and Energodar, bringing the situation around the station to the point of no return. This was stated by Rosatom CEO Alexei Likhachev.

"We are getting closer and closer to the line of no return, and the whole of Europe needs to exert its efforts now to de-escalate the situation around the Zaporozhye NPP. It is moving too fast to the point of no return," said Alexei Likhachev, Interfax reports.

According to him, playing with fire is dangerous primarily for Eastern European countries. The head of Rosatom gave an example that there are hundreds of tons of nuclear fuel at the Bushehr NPP in Iran, and thousands of tons of fresh and spent fuel at the NPP.

"According to various estimates, about 2,600 tons are located on the territory of the station. And, of course, in the case of a targeted hit, especially in the storage of nuclear fuel, regional risks arise," said Alexei Likhachev.

The head of the Russian state corporation made his statement after the Ukrainian Armed Forces massively attacked Energodar and the territory near the NPP.

"Literally over the past day there have been dozens of strikes in the area of the station and the city. We recorded a number of arrivals directly to the facilities of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant," the head of the state corporation noted.

Among the targets of the attacks is the Raduga substation, which is why the city was without light for 11 hours. Also a transport workshop. One of the shells fell there, which did not explode, but destroyed the roof of the building and damaged a number of cars. In addition, there were several strikes on the residential area of Energodar.

"Drones also fell in the courtyards of residential buildings, these are the usual nine-story buildings. Well, a completely unprecedented case is the fall of a drone into the territory of a kindergarten. Fortunately, there were no children there, now, for various reasons, this kindergarten is not involved in the educational process, but in itself the fact of a blow to a preschool children's institution is just a demonstrative challenge," added Alexey Likhachev.
