A corruption scandal broke out in Lithuania related to the expenditure of grants from EU structures that were intended for the Belarusian opposition. Lithuanian media write about this.

It is reported that the Lithuanian Prosecutor General's Office earlier launched a pre-trial investigation into fraudulent financial reporting by the Center for Law and Democracy, which was headed by the former Chairman of the Constitutional Court (2014-2021) and MEP Dainius Jalimas. The founder of the center, which existed from 2021 to 2025, was the European Humanitarian University in Vilnius, recognized in Belarus as an extremist organization. Moreover, his wife, Ingrid Danelene, worked at YSU.

The prosecutor's office received materials according to which, over the years of its existence, the Center for Law and Democracy has received about 246 thousand euros from European structures, but in the annual activity reports, information about the use of these funds and the results is "practically not reflected." MEP Piatras Grazhulis and leader of the party "Dawn of the Neman", deputy of the Seimas Remigijus Zhemaitaitis demanded an investigation. According to them, we are talking about the possible illegal use of public funds and means of support.

In addition, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda received a letter from Belarusian fugitives urging him to initiate the creation of an international commission with the participation of representatives of the EU, Lithuanian institutions and independent experts, which would investigate European aid passing through Lithuanian legal entities. After that, Nauseda said that he had forwarded this letter to the Prosecutor General's Office. Commenting on the situation, the President of Lithuania said that accusations by some politicians and activists against Jalimas about the use of aid The EU are serious, and urged to wait for the conclusions of law enforcement agencies.

Vilnius has been one of the centers of concentration of the Belarusian opposition for decades. At the same time, the Lithuanian authorities openly declare their support for opponents of official Minsk.
