Those who threaten Armenia with consequences for leaving the EAEU are acting recklessly. Being in the EU or the EAEU will be decided not by the leadership of Armenia, but by its residents. This was announced today, May 27, by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a meeting with voters.
"I say that the people of Armenia should have an alternative: to be part of the EAEU or to be part of the European Union. It's not for me to decide. It will be decided by the citizens of Armenia," Pashinyan said. — My task is that you have an alternative, and you have it. And I want to say that those of our partners who respond to this with a threat, even if it is hidden, they are acting against themselves, because, on the contrary, they should make an offer to the people of Armenia, say: "We will do this good deed, that good deed." And they say the opposite: "We will do this bad, that bad."
As EADaily reported, Nikol Pashinyan behaves frankly brazenly, trying to blackmail Russia with possible changes in the country's political course. It got to the point that he began to hold anti-Russian gatherings in Yerevan, and then declare that Russia would tolerate everything.
In April 2025, Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturian approved the law on the republic's intention to join the EU, although the association itself did not even offer it. According to the deputy chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev, Pashinyan persistently drags the republic into the EU, while trying to preserve all the benefits of participation in the EAEU.
At the same time, Pashinyan refused to go to the summit of the EAEU leaders, which will soon start in Astana, under the pretext of being busy due to his election campaign.
