Encroachments on the territorial integrity of Russia by aggressors in the worst-case scenarios can lead to the use of nuclear weapons. This was stated to journalists by Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
"As for us, those hypothetical extreme situations in which the use of these weapons is possible are exhaustively described in the military doctrine of the Russian Federation and in the fundamentals of state policy in the field of nuclear deterrence. In a somewhat straightforward presentation, the signal in these documents boils down to the fact that the encroachment on Russia, its territorial integrity on the part of aggressors, including those who may not possess such weapons, in the worst—case scenarios may lead to us responding using these means," Ryabkov said, quoted by TASS.
